Copyediting for the web
How would one copyedit text on the web? Hardcopy is being replaced by online text -- how would copyediting symbols be used (or converted) when there is only this version of copy available?
Web pages can be printed and copyedited before the pages are uploaded. Also, the text can be pasted into a word-processing program, printed out, and edited.
Errors undermine the quality and authority of a site, so it's in the best interests of the managers to produce as error-free a site as possible.
