I was talking to some of the people that work with the KaLeo, Kalamakua, and Hawai'i Review the other day. They mentioned to me that they were in some serious need of people that know how to edit, write, or both. Pretty much what I got from this is that there is a serious need for people that can add quality content to either of these publications. The Board of Publications (BOP) is the overseeing board for the publications that we have on campus and have a list explaining what some of these publications are about. Also, on the "Publications" tab on the BOP website navigation menu, there are all of the publication's open positions.

Punctuation Acronyms?
I was going over the suggested material and was wondering if anybody has any mnemonic devices that I can use to remember the rules for punctuations?

Styles in Word 2007 for PC
I am just sharing a quick way to create a style in Word 2007. Below are some screen pics I took of when I did it on mine. Hope this helps the few of us that are using a PC and Word 2007. Images are below each step.
I just entered some text into Word.

I selected by highlighting the text and the format box should appear. I chose the font from this format box as well as the size of the font and any other formatting characteristics that you would like (in this case, Bold-14pt.-Verdana font). Still highlighted, I right mouse clicked the highlighted region and moved my cursor to the "Style" option on this menu and then clicked the "Save Selection as a New Quick Style" option.
Once that is clicked, a box to name your quick style will appear. You only have to name the first box since the second box will rename itself once you hit the "OK" button.
After that, you are done and can access your new "Quick Style" in your "Styles" menu under your "Home" bar (the two different pictures below are of an expanded menu and one that is minimized).
Minimized menu ^^
Expanded menu ^^
Hope this help.

Another Grammar Infraction
I was surfing the net the other day for something and caught this ad. I barely even noticed it. Interesting how much an apostrophe can throw everything off.
Below is a comic strip that I thought was pretty funny because I always have to ask myself that same question.

There is a Style Sheet for Everything
I was looking around for examples of style-sheets the other day and I just realized that these are everywhere. Style sheets are present in everything that we use. Web content is mostly constructed of style sheets like the one above. The only difference between our style sheets and the ones used online is that ours deals with grammatical style as opposed to the styling of the appearance that is included in every aspect of this blog and other websites we browse. Just made the connection after my Google search and thought I would share.

Numbers are confusing....
I just did a Google search to find some of the rules for writing numbers and numerals and I was confused. Below are two links to a the ones that I felt most closely matched one another. I didn't know that so much thought could be put into spelling or not spelling numbers. Whoa!
After reading these articles, I still don't think that I know when to spell numbers out for people. Just reading the post by Richie Mae really got me thinking. There are some clear rules there, but there are more rules in the articles I read.
Also, thinking back on this same post, I went and looked at a math book that I still had and couldn't believe that the what Richie said was totally true. Math books are inconsistent in naming their naming of numbers.

How About Comic Book Copy Editing?

When do I...
The text we read was interesting in that it made me come to better understand when to edit the text. During the first week of classes, I was honestly tempted to change the author's text. As the article stated, however, there are a large amount of questions that include how to continue the author's style. It brought me to thinking about the legality of editing it after we discussed the publishing process in class yesterday. How does the author get input in what changes are included when the publication goes to print after they receive the galleys?

The Checklist for Editing
Going with the theme of the other posts, I decided to post a checklist that I found online entitled "How To Edit Your Own Writing (Self-Editing)." Editing my own work can sometimes be a bit difficult and having some form of parameters are helpful. I especially like the checklist that is provided goes into 11-key points.
